Tips and Facts

What to Pack

The weather in the wedding’s location will be similar to California’s winter weather. Expect cooler temperatures and rain. We could also be surprised with sunny weather and warmer temperatures, especially in Stockholm, so do pack some summer clothes as well. But in general pants, a shirt and a warmer jacket will work great! Don’t forget an eye mask for the trip and for the sunny late evenings. Most places have blackout curtains, but it is always good to be prepared. Below I outline how I like to pack for this trip.

Flight Essentials: eye mask, ear plugs, neck pillow, Advil/asprin, face wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, warm jacket, t-shirt, warm socks, headphones, downloaded movies/podcasts.

Trip Essentials: Melatonin, running shoes, 2 pants, 4 shirts, 2 nicer outfits, hiking/running clothes, warm but light weight down jacket, sandals, bathing suit, and wedding clothes.

In general in Sweden, people use way less cash than we do here in the US. Some places even do not accept cash! So if you are considering converting to get cash, don’t take out heaps of money. A credit/debit card will suffice the entire time while being in Sweden. I recommend using a credit card that does not charge international processing fees. Many credit cards offer this and are great for traveling for that reason!

Translation Tips!

You will have a very easy time speaking English anywhere in Sweden. The Swedes, particularity younger folk, are very fluent and will most likely be able to speak with you and help you out if you have any questions. Any transportation, central station, employees usually can speak English very well. All information on trains is said once in Swedish and then a shorter version again in English. Ask questions if you are unsure of how many stops are left, where you should get off, where you are going, the Swedes will help you!

Swedish is very similar to English once you get the hang of it but for now, here is a quick translation guide that will come in handy when navigating booking train tickets etc. Pronouncing Swedish words is hard, you will most likely be better off saying them as you would in English…someone would understand you better hopefully.
